About Us

Shady Acre Farm is a small-scale farm in Richmond BC. Started by two women who came together through the UBC Farm Practicum in Sustainable Agriculture, the farm focuses on small-scale, mixed vegetables grown in a way that is sustainable for the earth, the farmers and the community.

The farm was started by Karly Pinch and Michaela Horner in 2015, and had a great first season! After one season, Michaela moved on to other things, and Karly continues to farm with passion.

Karly Pinch

Picture
Karly first discovered a love of farming when she started volunteering at UBC Farm and other urban farms in Vancouver. She spent a season as a student in the UBC Farm Practicum in Sustainable Agriculture in 2013, then went on to apprentice with her partner at Rootdown Organic Farm in the 2014 season.

Karly is a passionate environmentalist, who works in the winter season as a coordinator for non-profits and a multitude of other jobs, and as an environmental educator with the BC Sustainable Energy Association Climate Change Showdown. She brings that passion for sustainability to her farming, and aims to nurture a farm system that supports the land, people, and community.
